EPIC GARDEN RAISED BIRDIE BEDS

Epic Garden raised garden birdie beds are new to our home and I couldn’t be more excited to share with you the journey as I continue to grow more fruits and veggies in our Southern California home. No matter the size of your yard or space my hope is to encourage you to start growing from seeds or even from your food scraps. Today I am sharing with you my honest opinion on making these raised beds, why I decided to go with this company versus all the other brands out there and how did I go about filling it. Lastly, I will share with you what we started growing from May 2023 until current in September 2023.

BUILDING THE BEDS:

First I would like to say one of the things that I liked most about these raised beds is it didn’t come in a 50 boxes. Everything was delivered straight to my door in one medium sized box. Since this was my first time recieving a birdies bed I was shocked and even thought to myself am I missing pieces? The answer was no they just do an amazing job at putting everything nice and compact inside including your tools needed, screws , bolt and panels and everything has a clear film on it so lessens the chance that things get scratched in transit.

The first bed me and my husband made took us about 20 minutes as we first tried to figure out what shape we wanted to create. With the 6 in 1 rotational garden bed you have several shapes you can make and we opt for the X shape. I started by removing all the plastic film and then got all the parts together for my husband so he could assemble it quickly. Once everything was removed we assembled the rounded edges first , then the middle connectors and last the straight boards. Be sure to take a look at the images I attached for you to get a better idea.

BASE LAYER OF THE BED

To create the base layer of the garden bed we went with the route of layering in cardboard, dry leaves, sticks that we found in our neighborhoods and then using a good organic quality dirt.

COMPANION PLANTING

When it came down to putting in the first garden bed I really wanted to focus on companion planting to deter any pest and also to yield more produce in the garden. If you are unfamiliar with this practice basically you look to grow best on what plants help each other grow. For instance in our bed I did marigolds, with basil and tomato plants. Tomato plants do well with marigolds around them and are known to deter certain pests and so does basil.

The result this year so far it is currently September has been we have had tall tomato plants and lots of tomatoes growing. Not to mention the basil plants are just as tall as my tomato plants at this point and they are growing vertically. If you have never grown anything I always suggest looking to start with herbs as they can truly flourish in just about any weather and they can last for the most part all year long! You can also preserve them and use them in everyday cooking . I purchased this year herbs that I use most often in the kitchen and can’t wait until next year to add cilantro and dill to the lineup.
